|
I was first saved alongside my mother a week after my step-father's suicide. I was nine and although I knew who God was, I did not have a full understanding of what a relationship with him would be. I just knew that if my mom needed salvation, then so did I.
At age 13 I walked away from Christianity - I did not intend to leave God behind, just His people. I had been deeply and shamefully hurt by the "Christians" in our church when my mother backslid, and it was easy to turn my back on them.
At age 15 I came back to the Lord through a church concert and amazingly went back to the same church that had hurt me so deeply before. I realized by God's grace that who I am as a person, and as a follower of Jesus Christ would not be defined by those people, and that to change the church, I would have to be the change.
I Timothy 4:12 became my verse to live by, and I stood on it every day. I became a leader in the youth group, worked in the nursery, worked with the nursing home ministry and stood tall no matter what people said or did to me or my family. I set an extremely high standard and never deviated from it.
As time has gone by, I have learned that the body of Christ is full of human beings and that imperfection is necessary to variety. God uses the most unexpected and never settles for mediocrity.
I am forever grateful for the opportunity to share the burden,the victory, the joy, and the faithfulness of God.
Jesus is the lover of my soul, my husband is the love of this life, and my children are the life of my love.
