As a child I never attended any particular church but did go occasionally with family and friends. At a very early age I heard, and believed the Gospel, but never advanced beyond basic belief and childlike prayers at bedtime. After graduating high school in 1975 I had been seeing a girl who was considered by most in our small town as a "Jesus Freak". I attended church with her on Sundays and went to various church functions with her. Sometime in the summer of 1975 I finally "got it" and made the altar call and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior! The following year she went off to University while I still attended a local community college. Rather than attempt the "long distance" relationship thing we just stayed friends. I met and married a woman the following year. My (now ex) wife was a cradle Catholic and we never attended church for the first 6 years of our marriage. Another couple who we were close friends with got "saved" and began attending the local Assemblies of God church. Following their lead my wife and I attended for a couple of years (every Sunday and Wednesday). Somehow we slipped away gradually, her first followed by me a year later. Even though throughout the 1990's I continued to pray I no longer attended church and "backslid" pretty bad! A lot of drinking, partying, foul language returned etc. After our two kids graduated University and married my wife and I divorced after 27 years of marriage. I became a workaholic, and somewhat depressed alcoholic. After a couple of years and some health issues I FINALLY returned to the Lord. Praise God for His Patience!! After months of serious prayer I did the Liberty University home study course. I learned a lot, and even though Baptist educated I still have a strong Pentecostal streak. Praise God through His Son, Jesus! He quite literally saved my life!
