When I was 15, my parents took me to see The Thorn, a play at New Life Church which acts out the book of John. After seeing the play, I began to consider more carefully what it really means to give your life to God. I realized that giving my life over to Him was all I had to do, and I had a brief period of understanding and peace in my life. However, I never stopped doing the things that brought me away from Him, and the Enemy had me before very long. I began to struggle with doubt, and the pull of racism and hate turned me into a neo-fascist at the age of 16, and an agnostic soon after.

 

My life became a living hell; through my intense desire for control, I founded self-destruction as a habit. Every single day I lived, I wanted to die. Life was so filled with hate and bitterness, it was all I knew. My family tried to help me by seeking professional help, but none of it changed me.

 

In January 2008 I had a profound spiritual experience. God reached into my life and showed me that there is so much to be had from Him, and that the things I was putting my energy towards were empty and useless. After receiving that signal from Him, I made the fateful decision not to compromise; I gave up the things that ruined me and chose my path going forward.
