Wilhelmus's Testimony
Hello my name is Bill and I'm a very grateful believer in Jesus Christ, who struggles with issues of pride and the effects of a suicide attempt. Jesus has healed me from a multiple drug addiction I once lived a life filled with drugs and alcohol. I have been divorced 2 times, and have come to know the lord after a near fatal suicide attempt in March,2005. While falling into a very deep depression after a failed spinal surgery I had on impulse decided to take my own life. I had ingested 800mg of methadone on that lonely evening in March of 2005. As the paramedics were trying to revive me I could feel myself slipping down a very long tunnel, and told them that " I was going some place " at that point things became very quite and I could hear a voice say to me " Bill it's not your time yet " The voice was as clear as could be and I realized that it was the lord letting me know that my work on this earth was not done, and that Christ still had plans for me. I was able to see the doctors and paramedics working on me and soon the Narcan, a opiate antagonist began to do it's job and I began to start to be able to breath on my own. The fight to save my life was a hard one, but Christ gave me the strength to pull through, it was latter that evening that I found out from my younger sister that I had gone into respiratory arrest a number of times. And that the paramedics were fearful that they were not going to be able to pull me back from this place that I had gone to. There was no pain, and I was very much at peace, the confusion that was taking place in my life at that time no longer seemed important to me, the hurt that my heart was feeling was now replaced with joy, the joy of now knowing that Christ cared about me and that he had a plan for me. So later, after I recovered and was cleared by the medical staff of the hospital, I joined in some very intense out patient therapy so that I would be able to understand what had happened to me, what was it that I had experienced? You see I was now suffering from PTDS what I had experienced had such a profound effect on me that I needed some kind of a logical explanation. My faith in what Jesus Christ said to me now began to grow and I by chance was introduced to a ministry known as Celebrate Recovery, after attending the men's 12 step program that took me on a 1 year journey along with 14 other step brothers, I have come to know what Jesus had in mind for my life, so after being involved with Celebrate Recovery for nearly 3 years I'm leading others in a Celebrate Recovery 12 step program so that they may also find the peace that Christ wants for us all. Recovery is a long and hard process, but with Christ by my side all is possible. As I and my step brothers continue on our road to recovery from life's hurts and habits.
