I was raised with amazing parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles up in the Redmond Washington State region. However, between my mom and dad there were 7 divorces and marriages that took place from the time I was 1 year old up to my early 20's. I never new what it was like to live in a home where both parents loved and cherished each other. Mom was an alcoholic for most of my young life up until I was entering High School. I lived with my mother until I turned 13. Then, due to my moms condition, and having recently divorced, and Dad having just recently marrying, my parents decided it would be best for me to live with my dad for the first time in my life. All I can say is what a change. It was actually for the better. My dad is a good man. He loved me and I knew it. Although it was really rough making the transition for the first year, with a new step mom that was only 9 years older than my 17 year old sister, new school district, new town, no friends around, and an awkward new relationship with my father for the first time on a day to day basis. No one in my family had ever gone to church, or taken us to church, no one! Not on either side of my family. Before I turned 14, I was invited to spend the night camping in the horse pasture in front of the house of a new friend of mine. Little did I know that his parents were Christians, and by default my new friend kind of was also, barely though. That night as I laid in my sleeping bag looking up at the stars, I asked my friend what he thought was on the other side of space and the universe. He simply replied...God. What? I said, he continued on to say that Jesus lived "out there" beyond the stars. That began a dialogue that would change the course of this young man's life forever. My friend explained how he knew this Jesus, and I should too. I asked him how I could get to know him, then came the sinners prayer. The next day I was a new creation. Although it took me 6 years to actually bring my self to a church and get baptized. But since that night that I gave my heart to Jesus, I had faithfully prayed to Jesus. Without a solid mentor in my life, Jesus became that man. Later God would lead me from Redmond Washington, to Nashville Tennessee, at the end of 7 years there, I was led to a business conference in Portland Oregon, where the Lord led me to my beautiful bride of 8 years now, Carolyn Goad Pankalla, and now our two beautiful children. My greatest blessings have been my trials and struggles, for out of them came great victory and true joy, as they stripped away the selfish, worldly man, so that I could see the real beauty of God's world and his people. My miracles were that I didn't end up a divorced alcoholic, bitter and broken, and defeated. Meeting my Godsend of a wife in Carolyn! Two of the most beautiful children you have ever seen! My mother recovering from a terrible disease called Alcoholism, and now a sponsor for over 20 years to others who are now where she used to be. A relationship with my father that I dreamed of, genuine love and respect for each other. I simply could not imagine life any other way.
